Just finished one of the hardest races I ever did, probably the hardest. Although my feet hurt a lot the last hours and the days after the race (now 3 weeks later, they still are not 100% OK), it’s a great feeling to think about those 10,5 days .
It’s difficult to compare with all the other races and adventures I did in the past, so we better don’t compare. If you want to experience the Arizona cactus fields, magnificent sunsets and sunrises, the canyons, … you should come and ride AZT750.
I posted this message on Instagram the morning after the race, and it’s still true:
Motivation gets you started, heart keeps you going. Just finished the Arizona Trail Race 750miles in 10days 17hours. It‘s been a though and brutal race, uncomparable to any thing else I have ridden in the past, it‘s special in many ways. From the desert to the Grand Canyon, from plus 30 degrees during the day to zero degrees night riding. Singletracks between cactus, pushing the bike through pines and rocks. I met my limitations a few times, the body gets older, the mind strives for achievements, the body refuses. Sleep deprevation, after 15hours of singletracks the body needs rest, more than the mind. Friendship along the track grows as the miles flow by. Thanks to Jens @1thwartshort for the companionship. See you soon again man, go bitch! Many thanks to everyone who followed the race. Blue dot junkies, now back to work! No, just hold on until Tim finishes. He‘s doing great after a ‘sukkeljaar‘ . Thanks to Lauf for the fork. I think it met its limitations a few times in very technical descents. But honoustly, I‘ve been riding without rear breaks since mile 200… And of course dikken merci to my wife and daughter. Love you 2. I‘m coming home. Last night in bivy. Celebrating on my own with M&M‘s and a Heineken sports drink (no, it‘s not beer!) . As I can‘t send any messages from this boeregat… The next morning. Feet hurt like hell. An Old man wouldn‘t be jealous of my walking style. Feet full of blisters. Not an easy walk… Hitchhiking to Kanab and then let‘s see how i get to Las Vegas. Now get some rest and recover. I think I lost a few kilo‘s… So I have to get that straight… Trappisten? Happy Trails!
