Sick / not sick

As I'm diagnosed lately with glandular fever, going to work is a challenge at the moment, and cycling is a no-go, probably for a couple of weeks ... months? Sleep, rest and listen to you body is the advice I get.

So my bikepacking 2020 BIG plans are in the freezer at the moment, hopefully I can start again by the summer and we'll see from there on ...

But I'd like to restart a good habit, the Bikepackig.BE Weekly, just some videos, pictures, blogs, ... I've read of the last couple of weeks and find interesting to share.

Will try to keep the cadence of a weekly post!

One hundred and five years ago, Edward “Ryko” Reichenback broke the speed record for riding across Australia south to north, covering 3,000 kilometers, or almost 1,900 miles, in 28 days. He set off from the post office in Adelaide and finished at the p.o. in Darwin four weeks later

Saturday April 4th 2020, START @ 17:00 @ Monschau Market Square. How to get in Monschau? Up 2 you! :-)

Arrival in Ostend? Depends on your average speed, rest along the way, but if you arrive in the morning you still got plenty of time to get home, by bike, car, train, ... and sleep a little bit before going back to work on Monday.

--- How does it work? ---

- Briefing of the latest information @ 16:30 in Monschau, BE THERE!

- One last picture of the whole group, the ride starts at 17:00 SHARP.

- You draw the route yourself, passing all mandatory checkpoints.

- Drafting ... is only allowed in the team. Other teams keep a respectable distance from each other. We count on the honest attitude of the participants.

- Fully self supported: no cars, no derny, you buy food & drink along the way. Check opening hours of Quick & McDonalds.

- All type of bikes are allowed. No, E-bikes are NOT allowed. #cheaters

- Sleep? That's your own strategy, although a strange strategy ...

- Take care of your lights and reflective elements! Riding dressed as a Christmas tree helps. And you should.

- Prove you were at a checkpoint by taking a selfie, post it on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook event page, ... hashtag #duodia

- Prove you were at a checkpoint by sending a SMS text message to +32 123/456.789 (you will get the phone number in Monschau)

- Quiting? Send "DNF" to +32 123/456.789 (you will get the phone number in Monschau).

- Meeting point & after party : Twins Club, Driftweg, Bredene.

First team takes care of breakfast, the last team brings cake.

--- Start - Checkpoints - Finish ---

- Start : Market Square @ Monschau (Germany!)

- CP1: Col de Haussire, 4.60kms, 6%avg, 15%max ... off course starting from the Ourthe, at the police station on the Route d'Houffalize (N860).

- CP2: a classic one ... the climb of the Citadel de Namur, it will (probably ;-) ) be dark when you arrive there, and on the top you will be rewarded with a magnificent view on the city. Mandatory road : Route Merveilleuse!

- CP3: another classic .. The Muur of Geraardsbergen, The next day De Ronde will pass here as well, so hurry up! Mandatory road : from the Dender all along the Vesten, off course!

- Finish : the Halve Maan lighthouse on the Oostelijke Strekdam.

This is NOT a race, the route follows public roads, so you respect the law at any moment. You wanna race? Get a license and show off in a local crit! Everything is under your personal responsibility, the organisation is not responsible for anything.
